What is hemiplegia?

Hemiplegia is immobility to either the left or right side of the body. The muscles on the effected side are stiff and weak. It is hard for children to control posture and movement. Many children with hemiplegia also have vision problems or seizures. Some of the causes of hemiplegia in children are stroke, head trauma, infections, or cerebral palsy. Hemiplegia can occur before birth or after birth

Lynx supports the advanced research for hemiplegia rehabilitation for children. Occupational therapy and physical therapy should start early for children with hemiplegia. Infants with hemiplegia usually have developmental delays such as in rolling, sitting, and crawling. Young children with hemiplegia often have difficulty with fine motor tasks such as using scissors, tying shoes, and eating. Gross motor skills such as walking, jumping, balance can also be challenging. Teenagers with hemiplegia can face challenges in school or with driving.

Lynx uses evidenced based therapeutic techniques to help children and teenagers with hemiplegia to regain function, restore health, and improve mobility. We continually provide education and support to families as well as other professionals to help children with hemiplegia develop increased independence and success.
